I´d like to add that xL509 is very prone to current runaway when exceeding, say, 40 Watt of anode Pd, too. Also, when using xL509, always think "anti-RF" and put stoppers everywhere you can imagine; anode stoppers, screen stoppers, control grid stoppers and even cathode stoppers (if you are intending on CF or when using as a pass-regulator in a PSU - which actually is a CF ) Using this tube for Audio applications is neither for beginners nor for the faint-hearted. My best suggestion would be to use it trioded strapped, either using conventional grounded cathode circuit (the OPT should be easy to do, both for SE or PP) or going (triode strapped) "Power-SRPP" like in Serges KT88SRPP amp.
