I guess this is in your mind... I recently listen to a SE of 845, an ppp of gu 29, and then I couldn't tell wich one was playing...I could say that the SE was a bit colder than the gu29.
But just for fun... just a bit, you know. It wasn't the first time i've noticed that fact, and i wasn't the only one to do.
We listened with that system http://perso.wanadoo.fr/rififi/hifi/
wich is quite sensitive.Just a SE of 6b4g, can play it very loud. over 100 db per watt...
But we didn't have any pre idea about the amps. nor SE ( with only polypro or PIO caps even in alimentation ! ) nor pp of penthodes ( Gu 29 with electrolitycs caps), or pp with R120 wich are call french triode with pp caps in alim also no caps in the signal...
The less I could tell, is that the SE weren't the best in term of "tons", of "colour" of sound, and the SE were in my reminder, a bit "cold" and rigid to compare.
I do like both of them. And mon "amour" is is still my pretty wife...Even if I must get out my Pavillon ( wich were similar to Phil) to play with a pair of little 5" coral...
could you tell us a bit more about your amps with 6s41 or 6s33.I got a sympathic schem with 6s33 and ec86, if you like.

DAvid

My 1 variant of 6S41S was with driver 6P15P, then I used EC 96 / but the gain is not reached /, 6E5P, but I'm especially pleased by the latest version with EF860. In 1 version I used Uak 6S41S=140v, but the best result was with Uak=180 v and mixed Bias /auto and fixed/. The output transforner
1,5 kohm /15 sq. cm/ was with 4 sections of secondary coil, and 3 sections of primary coil
/2121212/. I ordred it in a factory in my town.
Ampl. with 6S33S was in 2 versions. Second was with separated PS for
driver and output tube. Ia - 280 and 40 ma....real windows's killer!!
But I like more 2A3's sound, fine, warm, detail... Have you heard it?
I lake it more than 300B / I compared with my fiend's ampl./.

Hi Azazello

Great amp, i like this kind of "philosophie"

Can you tell me about your precedent version with 6p15p

you said not enough gain , to drive completly the 6c41c i think
how mutch for this drive in best result :?:

Have you try 6J51P , an other little russian pentode

Have you more detail of the output trany
size of core, number of turns , thikness of insulation , so i can simulate with Yves'program

Have you some scope picture

thanks for your response

Hi, Totof!
My version with 6P15P /2 years ago/ was only few days....I remember apr.
Uk=2 v, Ia=25 ma, Ia=150-160 v. I liked this sound. After 6P15P I used
EC96, but the gain was small, then I used 6E5P - very good choice, but the best result was with EF860 - for some data I will visit my friend and measure
the conditions exactly..
I made 2 versions 6S33S & 6E5P - this proved very good pair with amazing sound.
About output transformer, it's very good russian version, ....1,2 kohm, 25
sq. sm, 0,35mm, 4 seconds coils for 8 ohms /90 turns, wire's d=0,8mm, conn. parallel/, 3 primary coils /330 turns, wire's d=0,4 mm, conn. serial/....The floors are like 2121212.
About frequency band, I measured with osciloscope...from 30-33 Hz to 25000
Hz, amplitude was apr. constant /input ampl. 1v, Routput=8 ohms/.
I haven't 6J51P....
Nikola

Hi Azazello

For your bandwidth you talk about -1 dB, not bad it's right

I see for the simulation of the output transformer
when i 'm be back
I go to work now

have a good day

There aren't interstage wires. Wires are only between connectors and tubes,
this is a good condition for noiseless and hmmmmless work!
AC wires /12,6 and 6,3 v/ are on the left and right side, and DC wires are
in the middle.
